A Scholar is specialist in a particular branch of study, especially the humanities, science etc . An academic, intellectual, learned person, professor, man of letters, woman of letters, mind, intellect, polymath etc. A person who is highly educated or has an aptitude for study.

We can not take one factor without the effect of the other, but it is a combination of the Grade or Skill.
To me, skill is the most important indicator, regarding the main question. There is a problem when grade and respective skills do not go hand in hand.

In this century , talent an skill is 'King'. the economic of knowledge era will make universities not attractive to 'great mind'. The infrastructure of learning and thinking makes'academic professor ' observers in the 'modern' world today.

I agree with the submissions that Skill is more important. This is because you can earn the Grade without possessing the Skill.

both skill and grade are important but sometime grade is necessary and some time skill is necessary.
Skills are required to create the service science industry in 21 century not grade.

Service is the application of specialised competences (knowledge and skills) through deeds, processes and performances for the benefit of another entity or the entity itself. (Vargo and Lusch (2006).
Despite the economic domination of services, there is relatively little focus from companies and government on service research and innovation compared to tangible products and technologies (Bitner and Brown, 2007).
Why Service Innovation?
Ø Service innovations in creating economic growth and wellbeing is increasingly acknowledged (European Commission, 2009).
Ø Service innovation can impact customer-provider interactions and improve the experience of funding, obtaining, installing, maintaining, upgrading and disposing of products.(IfM and IBM 2008).
Ø It can enhance the capabilities of organizations to create value with stakeholders.In today’s economy, businesses need to continuously reinvent themselves in order to adapt to increasingly complex and dynamic market realities. (Coates 2009).

The ultimate value of research is skills to improve human quality of life and civilization. ..what i call service science. We need paradigm shift in academic and the solution is service science powered by knowledge economy today.

i. Phenomena breed sciences.
Phenomena observed in service are social phenomena.
ii. A service can be viewed as a system
iii. Service science is the study of service systems
iv. Service science is an interdisciplinary efforts of studying phenomena observed in service.
v. Service science contains different layers of foci:
a. Data – the language of nature (empirical framework)
b. Model – measurable quantities and relationships (theoretical framework)
c. Analytics – fit data to model, explain variance (analytical framework)
d. Take Action – interact with world and iterate (engineering and design frameworks).
