Please teach me the most efficient way to calculate the amount of broken rice and formulated fresh prawn feeds at 32 % protein, to be fed for Macrobrachium rosenbergii:
- The pond size is 1.2 ha, rectangle and average depth is 1 meter
- There are about 100,000 of juveniles, 2.5g per animal
- Three times feeding at 6.30 am, 11.00 am and 6.00 pm
Thank you very much Dr. Tariq H. Y. Al-Maliky for your guidance. We are feeding 3 times per day at 6.30 am, 11.00 am and 6.00 pm. As an example the feed weight for each feeding is 5,250 g (5.25 kg), 1,750 g (1.75 kg) and 10,500 g (10.5 kg). There are 8 check trays in one pond. Therefore from your procedure it is 5,250 g divided by 100 which is 52.5 g, 1,750 g divided by 100 which is 17.5 g and 10,500 g divided by 100 which is 105 g. These numbers will be divided by 8 which is 52.5 g divided by 8 which is 6.6 g per check tray , which is 17.5 g divided by 8 which is 2.2 g per check tray and finally 105 g divided by 8 which is 13.1 g per check tray. Is my understanding of your procedures right and proper? Please correct my error if it is wrong. Dear Arthur Yeo,
You better feed your prawn on the basis of satiation instead of calculating from body weight. You can calculate on the basis of body weight, but, adjust the ration on the basis of satiation. Check the feeding tray after 40 minutes of feeding, if there is no feed, increase the ration, if lot of feeds remain decrease the ration.
Dear Dr Md Amzad Hossain, thank you for responding. My request for calculation for the weight of food/feed to put in a check tray was not correctly explained. I am sorry. Therefore please allow me to write my request as follow:
1. We have or know the amount of feed/food to be given into grow out pond.
2. We feed by broadcasting from a boat and also from the side of the bund.
3. Please teach and help us to calculate the amount to put in each check tray so that we can gauge or observe how well the prawns are eating. We have altogether 8 check tray in this grow out pond.
