Below, I shall narrate about Indian Green Revolution: Late Prof. M. S. Swaminathan’s (1925 - 2023)

1. Bengal (a part of Indian region) famine 1943 made him clear to study Agricultural Science and contribute.
2. He followed and practised Dr Norman Barlaug’s work (Father of Green Revolution in the World and Noble Laureate in peace,1970).
3. In 1950s, Faculty position in US, he declined keeping in mind work for the country.
4. In early 1960s, country was grappling with shadows of famine which created food shortages.
5. His unyielding commitment and foresight ushered a new era of agricultural prosperity, which made India a “Food Sufficient Nation”.
6. Valuable contribution towards “Soil Health Card”.
7. His book describes “Farmers as the pin that holds the World together” hence his is called as farmers’ scientist.
8, He was the first recipient of World Food Prize- 1987 and used the prize money in establishing Research Foundation.
9. Hence, he is called as “Father of the Indian Green Revolution”.
