National University Commission of Nigeria stipulates that the minimum requirement for appointment to teach in the University is a Masters Degree in one's area of specialization. Most people go in for a PH.D in the same area as a reinforcement or consolidation in that area rather than diverting into another area altogether. It is easier and faster to remain in the same area than move into another area. That's my advice too.

Some fields are cross discipline and is difficult to place in only 1 field. There will be professors working in the same field but different departments in the same university.

My personal opinion is the most important thing that I am a fan of the field in which I work in it and his understanding, both in the master's or doctorate, where creativity is produced in the field of this. But what happens with most of us where the point of research in the doctorate is changed from the master's point produced by certain circumstances

In my opinion, I encourage to continue on the same subject in order to satisfy more benefit and deep understanding.

I think that it depends, both on skills and available programs.

If you are a type of researcher that wants to know deeply one field and have less wide horizon of knowledge, then better to have the same specialization in MA and PhD.

But if you want to be able to do some interdisciplinary research in future, there is some benefits from choosing them differently. But probably not too much different, because then you can fail. There is also some sense to choose PhD a bit different from MA, if: a) you found that you do not like to do research on the specialization from MA, b) if you find a good supervisor and interesting topic in a slightly different field.

As my knowledge, I encourage to continue on the same subject in order to satisfy more benefit and go to deep knowledge. If you want to be able to do some interdisciplinary research in future, there is some benefits from choosing them differently.

It is your choice. If you chose a different branch at Ph.D from masters, you need to work more.

Same ...but after you can change little bit.....i believe PhD is a training after which one understand how to do research...so changing the filed after that will not bother ....

I think get both degrees at the same branch to get depth knowledge in that branch.

I believe that the continuation of research begun in the Masters preferred.

In my opinion, doing PhD in different field but the the idea of Master's is highly applied is good. Rising in academics is as going through ladder, slightly inclined so that the importance of each step is retained.
