I am currently doing a research on synthesis and characterization of PVA-cellulose and PVA-rice husk ash hydrogels. Can anybody give me an idea on the methodology for synthesis? Thank you. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
First for the abbreviation PVA sometimes it is missleading since some times it is used to designate polyvinyl acetate and others for polyvinyl alcohol, and to avoid this missconfusing situation it is better to use PVAc for polyvinyl acetate and PVAl for polyvinyl alcohol.
Second it is well known that PVAl is prepared by the hydrolysis of PVAc since the vinyl alcohol monomer is unstable in addition to other obstacles. So in your situation I think the metodology is to polymerize the VAc monomer in a swell matrix (cellulose and rice husk) either by the VAc monomer or with an addition of an adequate solvent, followed by hydrolysis.
