What is the mechanical advantage of the K+-circulating system of cochlea? I thought simple ATPase structure would be enough to maintain [K+]. ?

Cochlea has a highly sophisticated system to maintain K+ concentration in the endolymph and IHC. I thought adopting Na+/K+ ATPase(just exchanging K+ mutually, directly) would be a lot simpler to play that role, and I'd like to know if there is certain advantage of using this kind of circulatory system.

It seems that stria vascularis functions to maintain the voltage gap between endolymph and IHC, and this can be done by this cochlea system. Thank you very much.

What I think is Dithiothreitol. As it is water-soluble and does not form a precipitate. But, the thing is it contains sulphur which is quite hazardous to aquatic animals.
