It is analogous to mechanical relaxation. After some time in electrical field, the polarization of the material reduces, like the stress of a polymer reduces after it spends some time under compression with a constant strain. The same curves apply, but for the mechanical case you analyse the real and the imaginary part of the elastic modulus, while the electrical relaxation is visualized through the electric modulus. Because of this relaxation, the electrical or mechanical modulus is dependent on frequency. The lower the frequency, the softer the material.
