In control theory, I have often come across the term "strict-feedback form" and I would like to know what it actually means. I would also like to know about its significance and the advantages/disadvantages of a system being expressed in this form. Has it got anything to do with easier matrix manipulation ?

"Strict Feedback form" refers to dynamic systems with time derivatives of lower order state variable being a function of itself, lower order variables (than itself) and the higher order variable, while the input to the system only appears in the highest time derivative equation. This type is feedback linearizable, and also, is required for Backstepping control approach. Recently, this form is found very useful for Intelligent control design as well. Instead of saying it is easy to control, I would say the control of such systems is somewhat intuitive. Also, many Nonlinear, adaptive, optimal, and learning control methods are developed for systems in strict feedback form.
