I am determining total mercury and methyl-mercury contents in the edible parts (muscle tissue, fillet) of some frozen fish species from the Persian Gulf to ascertain whether the concentrations exceeded the maximum level fixed by the European Commission, but I am not sure about the maximum standard level of Mercury based on fresh weight.

There are exist many different standards for different toxicants such as mercury. .
Many countries have set the maximum permitted level of Hg in fish at 0.5 μg.g-1 w.wt (see Nauen, 1983).
The maximum permitted level of Hg in fish in Ecuador, Finland, Germany, Netherlands and Sweden (1.0 μg.g-1 w.wt) and in Italia and Greece (0.7 μg.g-1 w.wt).(see Nauen, 1983).
Also the threshold for human consumption set by MAFF (Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, United Kingdom) at 0.3 μg.g-1 w.wt (ANFA, 1992).
