The Department for Water’s Impacts of Climate Change on Water Resources (ICCWR) project has undertaken an analysis of groundwater recharge and rainfall intensity data in the Alinytjara Wilurara Natural Resources Management (AWNRM) Region to determine the potential impact of climate change on the principal known potable groundwater resources of the region. Their projections indicate that through the 21st century, South Australia may be subject to:

• increased temperatures

• reduced rainfall

• increased rainfall variability

• increased evaporation

• significantly increased frequency and severity of drought

• changes in the frequency of extreme weather events, including flooding.

Of immediate concern to South Australia will be the impacts of decreased rainfall and its increased variability. Along with higher temperatures, which increase potential evaporation, the combined impacts may have significant consequences for the State’s natural water resources. back to the question, certainly water resources management must play an important role to ensure future mankinds. various uses of water have deminished the availability of water resources, therefore proper management is mandatory. in developed urban areas, water needs to be imported from adjacent of outside areas, and the uses of water much outweigh the supply. most important issue is pollution to water sources and generation of waste water that have become severe competitor of available freshwater. recent ideas about environmental flow and waters is OK, however real models of sustainable water resources management are still in needs, especially for build up areas such as urban dwellings. the concepts of water efficiency need to be more relaxed or broader issues need be considered

Very important question. I think water is the future oil. Water resources management has been important and will remain important for ever, I think so. Major part of water is consumed by crops, crops give us energy and energy keeps us alive. I think it is not difficult to say, without having an efficient water resources management system, it would be difficult to talk about food security, environment and safe future of man kind on planet earth.

This is a very important question. In my modest opinion, most of the water resources problem we are currently facing everywhere are resulted from bad or improper water resources management. Integrated water resources is the key for good water resources management. But IWRM cannot be achieved without the full understanding of the existing water resources system and its boundary condition, the ability of conducting good EIA studies, and of course water demand management. IWRM is not only good for present generation but it is the only possible step toward water sustainability in a certain area.

Water is not like cement or concrete - it is life. Just distribution and full appreciation of its economic, financial, environmental and social dimensions must be part of the planning process. The 73rd amendment and the Tribal Self-rule Act direct that people's consent and consultation cannot be sidelined. Rivers support millions of people. A grandiose scheme such as interlinking would be likely to involve international lending agencies. Before anything starts, let people know what is in the mind of the president, the ministers and sanctioned by the outgoing chief justice within a few days.

Water is an essential resource for the existence of life on earth. However, just about 3% of all the water resources on earth is freshwater. About 2/3rd of this 3% freshwater is inaccessible and locked up in ice caps and glaciers. At the same time, 1/5th of the remaining 1% is present in remote, unapproachable areas. In short, just about 0.08% of all the freshwater is used by mankind to meet the ever increasing world demand for drinking, sanitation, manufacturing, and other human requirements that also includes agriculture.

Therefore, in my view, water resources management is the need of the day and saving water is like saving future on earth.
