For my dissertation, I am looking to explore the effect of Monetary Policies set by Central Banks on inward FDI (% of GDP) for USA, UK, India and Japan from 1993-2014.
During this time period I plan to trifurcate the timeline into 1993-1999, 2000-2007 and 2007-2014. This separation is done so that I can see how the monetary policy taken by the four countries affect FDI before, during and after Asian and 2008 recessionary periods. In terms of industry scrutinization, I plan to look particularly at the FDI inflow into the Financial services/institution segments.
I am wanting to look closely at the links between exchange rates (in terms of LCU to USD), real interest rates (USD figures), real inflation rates on FDI net inflow (%GDP) [Year on year values]. I also want to add GDP (current) but would that be useful or just be too many variables?
Also most of the data for the four countries I found on World Bank's website. Would anyone suggest better databases for these variables?
I plan to run applied Macroeconometric models (ARMA, ARCH/GARCH, ARDL, etc) to plot the regression.
Any thoughts on this would really be appreciated!
Thanks & Regards
Philip
