In the equation of CE calculation, I've got a little confused with the one to calculate V[surs]. It's something like V[surs]= a[i]*(3.(A-V[noise])-4B+C). Everything else is clear to me, but what is that a[i] value? I checked a couple of papers and still it's not very clear. In one paper, they omitted it altogether in the equation. Can someone help?
The a[i] refers to the smoothness class of the tissue i.e. the shape of the object in the given sectioning direction. It can be estimated (biased) with a constant
Not smooth (m0=1/12)
smooth (m1=1/240)
