What level of over-reading might be expected for a magflow meter on a partially filled pipe? Is it possible to over-read by a factor of 6? (So a true flow of 20 l/s would be recorded as 120 l/s).
Dear Jeremy: What is the problem with your installation? When a flow meter is operating totally out of the conditions of its design, or is not working properly, I suppose that any result is possible. Why should be different for an electromagnetic flow meter?
I don't know if the pipe if flowing partially full. If it is, would that kind of discrepancy happen? If yes, I can ask for further investigation. I have data, but no site access.
it depends on the type of flow meter, actually there are mag flowmeters that can handle partially filled pipes with ease. However most mag meters are not designed for these circumstances, when such mag meters are faced with multiphase flow (i.e. a mixture of gas and fluid) you'll get erratic results and mostly an underestimation of the flow, so an over read of a factor 6 is quite unlikely.
