What is the boundary separating imprinted thin film and imprinted membrane? Is there a difference between them? Are they the same? Available publications read so far make it quite confusing.
Does anyone know if there is any review article about either 'molecularly imprinted membrane' or 'molecularly imprinted thin film'?

Molecularly imprinted membrane is a porous film wherein the specific cavities are on the wall of the pores, and while the feed solution passes through the membrane the target molecule is adsorbed by the specific cavities. In contrast, in the molecularly imprinted film the specific cavities are usually on the exterior surface of the film, and the feed solution is brought in contact with the exterior surface of the film. However, there can be diffusion into the matrix of the film but not permeation from the other side.
