What is the difference between "pesticides" and "insecticides" in English? Are they the equivalent replacement when used in text?
I am an ecological researcher who particularly concerns the research of eco-toxicology. I prepare to draft an English text concerning some pesticide toxicity today. However, somebody told me that the definition of the word "pesticide" includes the term "insecticide". Then dictionary explains that " Pesticides are chemicals that farmers put on their crops to kill harmful insects. ", compared with " Insecticide is a chemical substance that is used to kill insects. ".
It really challenges my mind. How can I use it correctly. I hope some Native Britain writer/researcher or someone who is good at English could help me.
Thank you all.
Best,
