I don't quite understand the difference between power input and power deposited in the Electromagnetic ports section. I am interested in simulating the laser irradiation of plasmonic arrays, hence I use a periodic boundary but with user defined ports. Now I assume that the power input should be the amount of power for that particular region, hence the laser power density is considered to calculate the power on just that 700nm region. Am I using this correctly? If so, what difference does P deposited make then?
which the setting of power in, you give some input power on your port. Comsol will calculate reflection and transmission to your model depending on the matching situation.
Choosing 'deposited power', you will fix the power transmitted to your system through the port. (comsol will vary the power in, to fit this fixed power into your system.. there is no matching calculation then , it is not self consistent anymore)

Thanks for the reply, so I guess its more for RF systems whereby you apply and RF field using lets say a coaxial cable etc and require matching etc. It shouldnt affect too much if you are doing optical work and use a user defined port for a plane wave.
yes and no.. it depends on how variable your load impedance varies with your excitation power.. optics? refraction index is stable?
Prof. Oshikane at university of Osaka may be a good help. (comsol and plasmonics)
