The difference between efficiency and effectiveness is that efficiency refers to doing things right, while effectiveness refers to doing the right thing. Efficiency focuses on the means, while effectiveness focuses on the end result. Moreover, efficiency is short term i.e. current state, while effectiveness is long term.
Effectiveness is the measure of the ratio of realizing objectives proportionally to the total objectives
efficiency is the realization of the objectives with minimum cost
Efficiency is about the best use of resources, inputs, to achieve maximum output, while effectiveness is mostly about achieving the intended end result irrespective of the resources, inputs, used.
In other words, Effectiveness is about doing the right task, completing activities and achieving goals. Efficiency is about doing things in an optimal way, for example doing it the fastest or in the least expensive way. It could be the wrong thing, but it was done optimally.
Efficiency has to do with economy, process and output while effectiveness is dealings with outcomes i.e. impact or effect achieved as a result what was performed.
Economy: deals human resources (knowledge, competency, experience, adequate staff etc) and material resources (money, laws, physical structures, buildings, writing materials etc).
Process: is about activities involved/engaged in using or transforming the human and material resources to output or end result.
Output: it could be ending result after finishing the activities in the process level. This could be in form of advice, report, unit etc.
