I am trying to prepare a computational model of a particular protein (matrix metaloproteinaise 1 (MMP1)) found in the extracellular matrix of humans. However, I am struggling to find a reliable source for the measurement of water density in this environment. If anyone knows of an article with this values, and/or a description of the ion-solvent composition, I would be extremely grateful.

This would be relative to the protein mass in the extracellular matrix. i.e. equal parts water to equal parts protein would come out as 1.
Hi Anthony, I don't know if this will help you, but Matrigel is considered to be a good stand in for in vivo ECM properties.
I don't have the references at hand, but I do remember that the water contents of Matrigel is somewhere around 30-40% w/w.

I recommend you to ask the question to Valerie Weaver, an expert in extracellular matrix (an smartdisciple of Mina Bissell). I agree with Steingrimur. But there is different tupes of Matrigels.
