We know that Graphene Quantum Dots (GQDs) is nothing but a small spherical sheet (3D confinement). Many researchers stated that GQDs is either poly crystalline or single crystalline nature ( Gram-scale synthesis of single-crystalline graphene quantum dots with superior optical properties, Nature Communications), it depends on the synthetic conditions. Suppose GQDs have in the single crystalline nature, what is the crystal structure of GQDs?
Quantum dot have a molecular structure type form lattice arrangement. For particle size smaller than around 12nm the lattices will lose their periodicity and that disturbs lattice arrangements which become a molecular like for sizes smaller than 4nm that calked a quantum dot.
