As per the experiment, bacterial cultures were centrifuged at 4000 RPM for 15 minutes, which is supposed to be the correct unit to express the parameters of centrifugation. But a reviewer denied the use of RPM as a centrifugation unit, rather the use or combination of g and RPM is suggested. What is the other way to express centrifugation of the bacterial cultures instead of expressing it solely in RPM?
Hi Amrah, it is better to express it in g units. Take into account that depending on the rotor you use you have to set different rpm to get the same g. If you express g units in your paper other researchers can use your centrifugation parameters in other rotors by translating g into rpm. This rpm to g translation can be done using some webpages.

Hello the main major unit in centrifugation is RCF relative centriguation force.
RCF = 1.12 x Radius x (rpm/1000)^2
By this you can see that you can have centrifuge with lower speed but with higher RCF due to rotor diameter.

You can either use “Compute Relative Centrifugal Force (RCF) or G-force” or “Compute revolutions per minute (RPM)”. RPM denotes the number of revolutions a rotating object is doing per minute while the RCF denotes the force applied on an object in a rotating environment. G-force can calculate using the law g = (1.118 × 10-5) R S2.
Where is the relative centrifugal force, R is the radius of the rotor in centimeters, and S is the speed of the centrifuge in revolutions per minute.
For some centrifuges, there is a button "rpm/ rcf" for automatic conversion of the rpm-value in g. The RCF is calculated using the RPM and the radius. You can convert RPM to RCF using following low:
RCF = 1.12 x Radius x (rpm/1000)2
Where,
Radius of rotor =mm
RPM=Revolutions per minute of rotor (rpm)
For example.
Revolutions per minute of rotor has given 1000 rpm and Radius of rotor is 100 mm. Now you need to convert it into Relative Centrifugal Force (RCF) or G-force.
By using the rule, we can easily calculate Relative Centrifugal Force (RCF) or G-force:
RCF = 1.12 x Radius x (rpm/1000)2
=1.12 x 100 x (1000/1000)2
=112 (RCF)
