Dear research community,

I am confused with the formatting of cytochromes.

I will ask my question with cytochrome c, as an example.

What is the most common abbreviation, cytc, cyt c or Cyc c?

Is the "c" of cytochrome c, italic? Would that also apply to c-type cytochrome.

Is cytochrome c2 or cytochrome c2 correct? Is the 2 italic or not? What does the 2 stand for? Speaking of cytochrome c550, I know the 550 means absorption. However, I guess the 2 is not referring to absorption, is the formatting convention yet for both numbers the same?

When I did not cover all conventions one should know about cytochromes, feel free to explain them too.

Many thanks!
