What is the broad extinction peak at 515 nm for DNA in a standard buffer attributable to?

All our experiments with different DNA in standard buffer give a broad extinction peak at 515nm. Does anyone know where this comes from? We suspect that it is light scattering, but we can't find reports of it in the literature.
