In our researches, for determine the same microclimatic parameters which you need, we use (with good satisfaction and results):an 11 inputs LSI Babuc/A portable microclimate control unit and a Delta OHM HD 2102.2 data logger to which a LP PYRA 03 pyranometer was connected.

The following probes were connected to the microclimate control unit by using an appropriate support:

- a Pt 100 Class A platinum heat-resistant probe to measure the air temperature in the examined;

- a forced ventilation psychrometer probe with distilled water tank to measure the relative humidity;

- a hot-wire anemometric probe to measure wind speed;

- a globe thermometer probe to measure the mean radiant temperature with a black opaque copper globe (reflection less than 2%) inside it while the centre is characterized by a thermometric sensor.

Please  be more specific, what parameters you need to measure and what is the purpose, general weather observations, climate studies, air quality, model testing, wind and solar energy, etc.. A automatic weather station cover most of the parameters. You may check with Campbell or Vaiasala representatives

 Mahmoud, I share Radian's curiosity- as I read your reply, you are investigating INDOOR air movement, light level, and air temperature, "Indoor weather", not the usual sense of weather OUTDOORS. Specifically, air motion indoors, while important to comfort, involves velocities much lower than most outdoor "weather stations" are designed to measure and record. Could you give details about what 'problems' you are having with the PASPORT? Since you are asking an international forum, you may get recommendations for equipment with which people are familiar from their own country. My suggestion is no exception: I suggest you have a look at http://www.onsetcomp.com/products . Light, temperature, relative humidity, and room occupancy can be measured and logged inexpensively and easily. I've used Onset loggers for 20 years without any problems, and the data transfer and software design are very "user friendly". Indoor air movement (I don't think it's accurate to call it "wind") is harder to measure, at the low velocities you'd expect indoors. Anemometers with moving parts (turbines, spinning cups, etc.) will all tend to "stall" at low air velocities. A hot wire (such as Ferdinando mentions) or ultrasonic anemometer (which relies on sound travel time through the moving air) may be required. Even with those, you should ask the manufacturer specifically whether their sensor can measure accurately at low ranges.

I would recommend CSAT3 from Campbell Scientific for wind speed and high accuracy HC2S3 temp/rh from Rotronics

Choosing the proper instrumentation largely depends on application/purpose and least but not last funding available

I agree with Nir Benmoshe; the placement of instruments is crucial.  The U.S. Weather service, has very specific instructions on how temperature and humidity instruments should be placed. Even the pointing direction of the shelter changes from Northern to Southern hemispheres.  Wind measurements also have their own concerns.

Actually, in our Architecture department, we are establishing a new building performance lab to conduct studies on increasing building efficiency with hot arid climates like that in Egypt.

I don't have the proper experience of the required tools for this purpose. I can't specify exactly which tools we may need to use frequently. and this is why I asked your experiences.
