We raised our Antigen specific antibody in Rabbits and we are planning to use the serum without further purification. My western blot bands are already specific without much background, hence the decision. I have almost 100 ml of the serum and I believe this will come handy for couple years down the lane if stored properly. I will add sodium azide to prevent contamination and glycerol for cryoprotection. My questions are:
1. What is the best way to save my serum longtime ?
2. What would be a better concentration of sodium azide and glycerol ?
3. What will be the best temperature to store ?

Store serum at -20 C with or without 1% azide.
Purified antibodies should be stored at -20C with 50% glycerol.
In case one has room in their freezer, one should store the purified IgG at -80C with 50% glycerol.
Thank you Dr. Waheed. I am planning on using the original serum itself without purification. In that case, can I just aliquot the serum and store in - 80C without glycerol and sodium azide ?

we store many cryopreserved blood derivate at minus 80. For sera/plasma we don´t add any reagents. For blood cells/buffy coat I prefer 2% DMSO.
The cryo tubes from Greiner, Micronic and other companies work well!

Thank you Tanja. I have decided to do the following:
1. Split them into two and to one add 0.02% sodium azide and to the second not add anything. Sodium azide is deleterious if the Ab is to be used in cells for in vivo imaging which we plan on doing.
2. Store them aliquoted at -20C.
