For the first time, I thought to take some supports of my students in a project. For this, I firstly specified requirements of the project. For example, it needed fluency in different languages. In addition, It also required hard working. Like these, I had specified so many criteria in my mind and then, I ranked candidate students who I have already known from courses (best performers in the courses) in terms of competency for these criteria and invited them into the project (I have one student accepting to collaborate with me and one another candidate now). At the same time, during invitation, you should clarify that whether you can support students in your project financially or not.

Is it an effective way? We will see :)). I will share my experiences with you after the project.

Make it attractive and reward them for their effort

Most of the time I try to pick students out of groups that I am teaching to. This way I can have influence on their motivation - by giving away few extra points for the final grade.

Simply by arranging a Viva-Voce examination. The student who gives right answer will be selected for the undertaken project.

I think it is better to check their background and to see whether their interest really matches with the project you want to undertake with them. Academic excellence should also be considered.

I have published more than sixty papers with student co-authors. My students have also been involved in major consulting projects -- including one project that saved the largest plywood manufacturing plant in North America $1 million a year in turnover costs over the past decade.

"It's academic" has come to mean that an idea is impractical, ivory tower, and not realistic. As academics, we need to partner with the business community and with government on legitimate projects that have practical real world value.

Many university texts are written by academics with little or no real world experience. And many of the "theories" proposed in those text books have no real empirical value. That reality is especially true in business. Yet scholars with real world experience like Stanford's Jeffrey Pfeffer note that the application of "conventional wisdom" is the cause of most organization dysfunction and failure. I think you should definitely give a call for applications, to ensure an interest level among responding students. Specify both what you require (a domain knowledge, language or technical proficiency, number of hours per week of work to be put in), the end objectives (what do you and the student hope to achieve together), and the rewards for the students (financial incentives, recognition, networking and future work opportunities).

Pick the students where you get the best matching of students' and your requirements. You have to involve the school authorities if your school guidelines specify the same.

I have done survey based projects we involved the students initially in field work, which includes getting the questionnaire filled from respondents and feeding in excel. They we involved them in data coding and analyzing, interpreting etc. We also told them to identify and write about their observations in the field. They were paid remuneration and certificate after the completion of project. They understand the ground realities of survey based project.

They are my students, so I know the capability of everyone of them, and my students are always passionate working with me. The problem I usually encounter in recruiting students is that they are busy with their normal curriculum. Now if I should keep them beyond the academic calendar I will have to be giving stipends for their upkeep.
