I applied the reinforcement as an impeded material but when I did run for the model the deflection was too high. So how can I be sure that the steel yielded or not ?
Try to make a reinforcement by creating a new part, In that you have to select part as a " 3D " and select truss, becz steel bars will be deisged as a truss element. than Assemble that bars in the concrete beam by selecting proper side spacing and quadrants.

1. The best way to model reinforcement depends on the type of your modelling. According to Abaqus Manual :
In Shell and Membrane Elements ; the preferred method for defining rebar is defining layers of reinforcement as part of the element section---Section 2.2..3
In Solids : the preferred method is embedding reinforced surface or membrane elements in host (solid) element-------Sec. 34.4.1
Alternative method in shell membrane and continuum elements is as an element property. Sec. 2.2.4
2. The high deflection you noticed may be corrected by one of the following methods:
The results displayed graphically using scale factor, so try to check the resulted deflection in tabulated form. If you find it is a small deflection in the table and large graphically try to adjust the graphic scale, or else try the following.
Reduce the applied load
Increase beam dimension or steel area
The last recommended thing to check is your input data . Be careful that Abaqus accept only one set of units for single problem. check units.
hi every one. I am trying to modeling a precast reinforced concrete tunnel lining, called Segment, by Abaqus software and I want to model reinforcement rebars separately into concrete. due to complexity of my sketch(215 parts), it is so hard to me to modeling that. Can anyone to help me?
I used truss elements and embedded them in concrete. But I couldnt get the rebar results, and got this warning "Rebar output is available only in membrane, shell, or surface elements at the integration points and at the centroid of the element." I have already click to the "output for rebar" option, nothing solved.
so does it means that we can not get results for rebars in solid elements ?
