What is the best way to model automatic repeat request (ARQ) in MATLAB?

I have the coding of simple transmission between the sender and receiver in Rayleigh and AWGN channel. What is the simplified or easier way to model ARQ for the transmission so that any rejected packet can be retransmitted ?
