How to include the Path Loss into the BER calculation in MATLAB?

I want to simulate BER for the CDMA network in Rayleigh and AWGN channel. I find the received power signal using Friis equation. But, how to include the received power signal into these channel?

As I know path loss is a channel property, so take the path loss component as the variance of Rayleigh channel and then add AWGN in usual manner. In this method, generally we take Gt=Gr=1 and lamda=4*pi.
