We have been trying to use the MoBio plant kits but with mixed success. Our oak leaves contain high concentrations of tannins. We have diluted the extractions but still poor luck.
Yes i compare the two and quantified the DNA.Kit method is rapid but good quantity of DNA was isolated by CTAB method.paper at which the comparison was done also attached.
We have used succefully the EXtract-N-Amp Plant PCR Kit for rapid and sensitive detection of diverse plant pathogenic bacteria in diverse plant species. Maybe worth a try!?
If its just for identification using molecular markers in DNA, the failsafe is using motar pestle grind in Liquid Nitrogen followed by CTAB extraction(do take care of critical NaCl concentrations.)
If its a kit you are looking for I might suggest the MoBio powersoil kit.
I have found that the Qiagen DNA extraction kits for plant tissue work the best. I believe that they contain CTAB too, although they won't say, off course.
