Most of the crude oil contains vanadium which is concentrated in the residual stream, sometimes processed in Fluid Catalytic Cracking Units, however with negative impact on the catalyst activity since vanadium in the presence of water steam and sodium can destroy the catalyst zeolite framework. What do you thing is the best way to deal with this problem?

Easiest way is to have a catalyst which can capture the Vanadium before it harms the active sites. Certain catalyst components (e.g. Al2O3) are effective in doing this. Sometimes special metal trapping agents (MgO etc) can be added. So best advice is to talk to your catalyst supplier.
