Video kinematic analysis. You need a special high speed camera.

Also for a complete analysis,if you have, you can use a force platform such as Kistler platform.

I am using Vicon system to capture and analyze gait parameters.

for simple and low cost usage, you can use wearable gyroscopes in different limbs to record the kinematics data of joints.

You need to use optoelectronic (IR cameras) system to measure joint range of motion during gait in different speed. Moreover, you also need force plate for locating COP and follow its trajectory as well as measuring ground reaction force (GRF). Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) could be an alternative to IR cameras.

For cheaper alternative, you may use high speed handycam and analysis software such as Kinovea for kinematic analysis. However, you still need to measure GRF, to do this, you may use electronic pedobarograph such as EMED system. Of course, these two systems should be integrated using synch box.

Tools required for Gait-Kinematics only:

For kinematics, these will suffice. If you also need Inverse Dynamics (joint force, torques and power), then you will additionally need 6 component force platforms (1 or more) to record GRF and COP, and of course Inverse dynamics capability in the software.

Basically, motion analysis studies are carried out through using opto-electronic system that includes specific cameras and retro-reflective skin markers, where placed on specific bony landmarks and surface electromyography (EMG) electrodes for muscle activity analysis in addition to a flexible software for tracking three-dimensional motion capture of the body segments or joints of interest during performing physiological range of motion or activities of daily living. For my research, I used the QUALYSIS (QTM) software with nine specific cameras for the analysis and modelling of upper body biomechanics during activities of manual wheelchair mobility.
