do you intend to drive the piezoelectric element just unipolar (output voltage 0 V .. 5000 V) or bipolar (output voltage -5000 V .. +5000 V)?

I think the leakage current will be negligible as compared to the charging resp. discharging current. If the element will be driven by a nearly monochrome voltage, do you know the maximum frequency? Or if voltage pulses will be applied, which slew rate (V/s) is required?

then you don't need an amplifier at all but a power supply will be enough, for example the HCK 100-6500 (max. 6.5 kV, 30 mA), offered here:

These power supplies are designed to charge capacitors, so you don't have to worry about surge current when applying the voltage. According to page 1 of the datasheet, there are options regarding a digital interface, an internal discharge circuit for pulse operation etc.

Yes sir exactly I need this type of power supplier but issue is that I don't know how much current it will draw at peak voltage (5KV). Because there are many HV supply who have limit of max in current in range of 1mA to 300mA for a 5KV.

So, I am not able to decide which is best suitable for my application with this much limited knowledge.

I don't know the properties of C-91 but on page 6 of the document behind the following link the specific resistance of various PZT materials is given:

If C-91 is similar regarding the resistance, one of your patches - referring to the PZT-2 data - had an electrical resistance of about 3.33 TOhm @ 25°C and of about 1.05 GOhm @ 200°C, @ 5 kV resulting in leakage currents of about 1.5 nA and 5 uA.

So, if the temperature in your experiments does not exceed some 100°C, and if C-91 has similar properties as other PZT materials then 30 mA are enough to statically drive some thousand patches.

Another point of view: In one of your patches, I guess that not more than some 100 mW can be dissipated without causing a considerable (or even damaging) increase of temperature. But 30 mA @ 5 kV corresponds to 150 W, so this should be sufficient to drive at least some 100 patches.

So, if you are driving just one or a few patches simultaneously, even a maximum output current of 1 mA would suffice. But either the power supply has a current limitation or you had to limit the charging current by an external resistor.

C-91 patch patch properties are very close to PZT-5H.

My working environmental temperature is room temperature only.

So , as per the document you have shared it offers very high resistance and draw very less current.

Hi Vikas Kaushik , because the devices of the HCP series, too, can limit the output current to the adjusted value even when short circuited, they might be as well used for charging a capacity.

The only difference between 5 mA and 30 mA maximum output current is in terms of charging time: If a single patch is charged to 5 kV, and is initially completely discharged, the transfer of the necessary 790 nC takes 158 us @ 5 mA, and 26.3 us @ 30 mA.

If time doesn't matter, you could even choose the 2 mA device.
