I want to sinter Zn-3Mg compacts produced by powder metallurgy. The sample dimensions are d: 20mm and l:10mm. Could you please suggest to me the environment and temperature and time for the successful sintering of the compacts (or a calculation method according to its dimensions)?

There are many alloys for magnesium with zinc you can see the first alloy is (Mg93-Zn6-Ca1)the sintering temp is 580 ºC and 630 ºC. The other two types contain carbamide (Mg83-Zn6-Ca1-10Carb) sintered at 580 ºC and 630 ºC
After compaction, the green compacts were then heat-treated to burn out the carbamide particles and to sinter the alloy in the tube furnace under Argon atmosphere. The heat treatment process consists of two-step, to accommodate
foaming of the alloy at 250 ºC with 4 hours holding time, and followed by the sintering process at 580 °C and 630 ºC for 5 hours. The heat treatment process was followed by the cooling process of the specimens in the furnace until room
temperature.
This can be done by sintering using an HP D 25-3 machine under vacuum at 500 and 550 ° C during 2.5, 5 and 10 min with a heating rate of 100 ° C / min and a pressing pressure of 50 MPa.
However, the best properties are sinters produced at 550 ° C and for 5 minutes. Density the relative sinters is 99.83%, hardness 53 HV0.5, tensile strength 46
MPa and compressive strength 221 MPa. Remember to remove oxides from the surface powder particles because it can negatively affect the tensile strength.
The temperature optimal is approximately about 500C and if you use the pressing the powder it will be better
Dear all, thank you for your answers. I want to solid-state sintering, not liquid-phase sintering. Thus, it must be below 375C according to the phase diagram of Zn-3Mg. Also, I will need an equation for the determination of full sintering time according to sample volume. I am waiting for your advice. Thanks,
