ethics: do owners feel they are doing something good, for the world/environment/society

practicality: is the system easy to use

* which is of course not the same as the actual economic benefit.

Manuel - this sounds like very interesting research but I am not entirely clear what you mean by "the best psychological variable to measure perception.." or indeed what your research objective is. Are you able to clarify a little more what you are specifically hoping to establish through your research?

Meanwhile there has been a wealth of research published on the social science aspects of occupant satisfaction in Passivhaus buildings dating back from the original CEPHEUS studies, which I assume you have read?  If not then do a search under Passivhaus (and Passive House) for research published by Prof. W. Feist and others (including J. Schnieders, S. Peper, O. Kah, R.Pfluger, et al). There have also been a growing number of papers on various aspects of evaluating thermal comfort and overheating risks  in Passivhaus buildings (including some of my work) and I am happy to supply you with further details if that would be of use to you.

The Energy Economy is my area of research. Through a variety of projects dedicated to this type of question, we validated the inevitable rapprochement of this subject with the Psychological Aspect of what we understand as an entity ENERGY and The use (consumption) we do. My point incriminates more cultural understanding image in our heads and the gesture of any use of energy.

For our research team, we try to measure:

• The true definition of energy consumption within citizens behavior (BIO CULTURE)
• The cost resulting from consumption habits (Good/Bad)
• Quantification of the resulting waste in relation to energy consumption.

The factors are not the same for all communities. I would say, you have to determined the community, then based on perception of that community find out the important factors related to useing renewable energy. For example people in Norway have different attitude toward renewable energy in compare with people in Egept.
