This problem is solved in two ways: 1) educating students (explaining them that articles cannot be written by using the 'copy-paste method', showing them how to cite properly etc.) and 2) using software to detect plagiarism - catch those who still copy-paste - and punish plagiarists (e.g. not publish their articles, not allow them to defend their theses... and make their names public).

Thank you for the answers. Do you think plagiarism is the problem of only students? How about others? As Tiia Vissak suggested teaching students is one good approach.

Not only students plagiarize: some PhDs do it, too: e.g. plagiarize their own work (take sentences from previous articles without citing these).

Tiia, yes you are quite correct. So how do we instigate honesty and the right way to avoid such malpractice? This is my concern.

Again, you have 2 main ways: educating people and punishing those that still plagiarize so that these people who would maybe otherwise become dishonest cite properly to avoid punisment. For instance, in our university, if plagiarism is found in a PhD thesis, the plagiarist will lose the degree and will also lose the right to defend a new thesis in our university.

We should build honesty with the people at the early stage when they are kids.
