With the fast growing volume and the increasing complexity of the remote sensing images, there is always need for a compatible, reliable and efficient software. However, current commercial software are very expensive and they do not have the flexibility of developing new tools compared to open source software. Is there any open source remote sensing software which can be a rivalry for existing commercial ones?
If you are looking for software with an interactive GUI then there are not many available. Most basic processes can be done with ESAs SNAP toolbox but this is limited in being able to develop your own customizable processing chains.
However, if you use python the possibilities are endless and there are numerous emerging remote sensing modules to use. My personal favorite is the Remote Sensing and GIS Library: https://www.rsgislib.org
