I am looking to begin my pilot work for my PhD and I am uncertain which is the best method to collect MVCs in transtibial and transfemoral amputees. In conjuction with EMG sensors, I thought of using the Biodex but I thought this might cause an excessive strain or discomfort on the amputated limb. The next best method is to maybe use manual muscle testing, but I thought maybe this may produce inaccurate maximal contractions.
Which muscle or muscle group(s) do you wish to test? Transfemoral amputees are going to be hard to test regardless.
How do you wish to measure the MVCs? EMG amplitude? Torque/force production?
Hi Gordon, thanks for your reply. I want to test the bicep femoris; rectus femoris; tibialis anterior; gastrocnemius medialis and gluteus maximus . I wish to measure the EMG amplitude, not sure how to go about it.
