They can be used to perform a methylation specific PCr for your gene.. Its important here to design primers specific for the the gene of interest. This will tell the methylation state of gene. For help in designing primers you can use MethPrimer from Applied biosystems.. As far as I remember its a freely available software.. and quite recommended.
For testing acetylation of gene.. I dont know about any kit.. but one can do IP using acetylated lysine antibody and perform a western blot using Antibody against gene of interest.
We have done MeDIP and acetylated chromatin IPs. You could also compare MspI and HpaII digested DNA by qPCR to look for general methylation levels at gene-specific loci.
