Hi,

HEVC (H.265) is latest and better compression codec than others. At the initial step there was problem with this, but now lots of documentation available.

You can work with JCT-VC for HEVC.

HEVC is a good option and other than that, the latest codec AV1 is a viable option. Though it is still not fully functional in FFMPEG, but still you can use it for testing and comparing with the previous ones.
