My first suggestion is OS-agnostic, as this is a web-based IDE: Cloud9 (https://c9.io/?redirect=0). I work with it a lot and I find it to be a great tool. Furthermore, you can retrieve your work from any device instantly. It has pre-installed capabilities for C/C++, with syntax highlighting, real-time typing errors checking (missing semicolons, brackets...), and the GCC compiler usually provides quite verbose error logs so you can easily find the faulty line.

Otherwise, you might want to try Xcode or Eclipse.

There's also Qt Creator, which is platform-agnostic, and has a built-in debugger. I've been using it quite a lot, even for plain C++ projects that don't make use of the Qt libraries at all.

It comes with GNU Symbolic Debugger out of the box, but you can also configure it to use your platform-specific debuggers (suchas LLDB and FSF GDB on Mac). http://doc.qt.io/qtcreator/creator-debugging.html

I recommend all to use EMACS and set it up for C++ IDE.

Eclipse is good IDE, and it is good debugging tools, try eclipse.

Eclipse does a good enough job for c/c++ and also allows coding in other languages like java, php, python, etc. unlike specialized c/c++ compilers. This is a bonus as you do not need to get used to another environment if you choose to learn/implement any of these in the future.

Xcode is a great IDE for C/C++ whether Eclipse, NetBeans that can be configured to build and compile C++ projects.

CLion from Jetbrains. It allows you the control over address and value from variables including a good interface.

We have our students use Eclipse, since they can use the same IDE on MacOS, Linux, or Windows, and with multiple languages via different plugins. I think Eclipse is the best option, especially for the reasons that (i) one can code with different languages, (ii) it is cross-platform, (iii) it is free and (iv) it really does the job - debugging, unit-testing, etc.
