When receiving unknown larvae to identify, we always sequence the COI region for identification. I am looking for a reliable method, that will be able to give me an answer for a few known larvae so we can take them out the equation without having to send the sample away for sequencing. Any suggestions?

I use the LCO (1490) and HCO (2198). They work well, but I just want something that is more specific and doesn't need to be sent away for sequencing
Tamryn, that COI primer you have been using is a universal one. I manage to work out Cephalopods by that means. What if you try to find a more specific primers for Lepidoptera? Or try to sequence them in the lab yourself? This latter my lab do not have either..sorry.
Tamryn, it is me again. Is karyogram enough for your samples? Because that is quicker and much cheaper.
