Many kinds of strategic models have set by different professors like David, Dess, Porter, ... but the question is that which one is more effective and has the most efficiancy when we are going to use
For the flavor of the month, read the McKinsey Quarterly, the Harvard Business Manager, and Books published by seniors of the big consultancies. That should make sure you can talk the talk at the right dinner-parties.
For learning something substantial about strategy design, I personally prefer to refer to books that are decades or centuries old and have stood the test of time. Strategy design is a generic task, and many fundamentals do not change. Most new strategies are just old stuff re-packaged - a variation on Porters generic strategic (quality leadership, cost leadership, niche market). If you are aware of the the previous incarnations, you will also be much better at identifying flaws in hypes.
However my question to you is in what specific context do you refer . You cant go past stables like Porter for strategy and understanding his competitive forces model . as a marketng Person Kotler also adds some interesting the mix . Strategy at is very base hasnt really changed . the tools in which we use to design strategy have and the environment in which it is diffused has . So keep that in mind
Since Gary mentioned Kotler - he and a few others recently published something like a roll call of the standard toolbox. It also contains a chapter on current focal areas:
Kotler, P., Bickhoff, N., Berger, R., 2010. The Quintessence of Strategic Management, Springer, Berlin/Heidelberg.
Ellen is right and her suggestion gives merit , Having studied Innovation and diffusion thereof would ask you also to look at contemporary strategies that have enables organisation to shift through change . Much strategy allows an organisations core competencies to flourish if indeed the strategy is well thought and is developed with all stakeholders in mind however the premise remains the same , As odd as it sounds I would also look at some of the chapters of Sun Tzu's Art of war ... A text often referred to whilst I was doing grad Marketing studies ,,, Now that is taking it to a different level but if you can look at the synergies of his thought processes and then apply them to other theorists today I think yo could be on to something ...
There are a number of good strategy models at both corporate and functional levels of a business, where-as functional strategic concerns focus on how to actualize the organizational goals and strategic objectives the corporate strategies would focus on positioning the organization in the industry. Depending on where you find a problem, we should be able to help you out. Please make articulate your concern more precisely.
I don't know if this will help. As other mentioned, it depends on the context of using this model. There is no "Best" model that is recommended by researchers, but there are many effective models.
In addition to the above suggestions, I recommend you have a look at the Execution Premium book of Norton and Kaplan. They went back and analysed the best implementations of their BSC and developed quite an impressive framework.
I used it personally, with some modifications off course, with many clients and got a great result.
Mejor hablar de enfoques de planificacion, la idea de modelo muestra algo rigido y no flexible y cambiante como son las realdades de los contextos sociales-economicos dinamicos
