I am wondering what's the best age to teach children a second language? Is it enough to teach them speaking at a particular suggested age? If so, when should we teach them reading and writing?, any personal research done or any suggestion?

I believe that the best age for teaching children a second language is the first year of the primary school.
Taking bilingualism as an intellectual advantage, children can begin the learning of a second as early as the age of three. Actually, when we talk about young language learners , the age range between 3 to 15 is considered.
As someone previously wrote, there are four language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Listening and speaking are primary language skills and their development is prerequisite for teaching reading and writing. Child that is three-years old could speak his/her mother tongue (with ''serious competence''), and he/she is learning to read and write 2 or three years after that period (approximately about 5 - to six years). As soon as a child has good listening and speaking skills in his/her mother tongue - he/she could learn another language. It's not necessary to wait reading and writing skills. Of course, this is not the only pattern - we have a lot of bilingual children.
