The book Vector Mechanics for Engineers by Beer Johnson says :
'Mechanics is the science that describes and predicts the conditions of rest or motion of bodies under the action of forces, it is divided into three parts : Mechanics of rigid bodies , mechanics of deformable bodies and mechanics of fluids.
two major classifications of mechanics are : Statics and dynamics.
Statics deals with objects at rest and dynamics with objects in motion.'
Dynamics types are : hydro dynamics , aero dynamics, gas dynamics
The word ' applied' is used as it is not a pure science, it is applied science.
i.e we do not challange the basic concepts used in mechanics (force, space , time and mass). We accept these as the reference for study based on our intution and experience.
So basically I do not see any difference in 'Mechanics' and Applied Mechanics'
I would opine that Applied Mechanics is a sub topic of Mechanics.
