The main advantage would be alignment for mounting which incluences the stiffness of the coupler. By having them mounted on the same frame, you have one less element for tolerance stack-up between the engine and generator. If they were mounted separately, you gain vibration isolation but have extra room for misalignment which makes the coupler need to make up this difference. When they are rigidly mounted, you can reduce the amount of flexibility that the coupler has to compensate, and thus can be stiffer and depending on the application, could maintain higher torques vs a coupler that has to be more flexible.
