I have been coming across the word 'system's thinking'. Can you provide example? Can you provide appropriate references? Is it originally a management concept or a scientific concept? What is the background of this term?

Is there a 'prima facie' notion about SYSTEMS that precedes every other function or expression, definition or casual use of it, including thinking? What is a system other than Saving Your Self Time Energy and Money. This is an adage used in the real estate world. Does this work in the pub(l)ic health arena as well? Or is this what's needed. To my knowledge, « System thinking » is mainly related to an holistic approach of problems. It started in the decades following the 2nd World War with among others works by L. von Bertalanffy :

This approach was then disseminated in a lot of fields going from physical to sociological systems sometimes with abuse. With interesting but sometimes also poor results which reflected discredit on it.
People like J. W. Forrester , developed more mathematical methods combining feedback loops, nonlinearity, … to assess the dynamics of systems and applied them successfully to problems in economy, road traffic, …, see for instance :

With Forrester, one may define a system as a ”group of elements operating together with a common goal”. A more descriptive definition could also be ”a collection of interlocked subparts that is in a state such that it operates as a whole at an higher scale than that (those) of its subparts ”.
This leads a.o. to complex systems and there is also a topic on « Complex Adaptive Systems » on RG. I join a proposed definition of such complex adaptive systems. But there are others and the holistic approach of system thinking is also used in several "non-scientific" fields like economy, management, social groups, etc.
The first step in solving the problem is to understand it, and this can be achieved through looking deeply at the whole system rather than individual parts. This step requires meeting with the stakeholders to share their vision about the situation. One of the common tools to build this understanding is to utilize Concept Maps, which are graphical tools used to represent the organization or a structure of knowledge. Concept Maps visually present the system’s elements, concept links, proposition statements, cross-links, and examples.
When thinking about a problem, we are influenced with the current situation that is reflected in our analysis, yet the problem follows a time dimension, which means that it should be tracked through the time. The Behavior Over Time graph draws a curve that presents a specific behavior (Y) through the time (X). This graph helps us to understanding whether or not the current solution is effective.
