We are planning to use db/db mice model in our study. According to articles heterozygous animals are used more often in comparison with WT as the control group. Could you explain what are advantages of heterozygote animal and why they are used as a control in this model?

The breading purpose of using heterozygote mice is quite clear. But for me it is more interesting why the het control group (db/+) is more common than the wild-type (+/+).

ok, then you can probably think of mice lifespan since db/db mice have faster mortality rates.
