I am modeling a concrete cylinder in abaqus which is under cyclic loads,I used concrete damage model(CDP) to simulate this. the problem is that cycles dont stop and continuously increase. how the sample fails in this case? what is the failure criteria for CDP?
The concrete damage plasticity model in Abaqus cannot predict failure. Cracking (tension) and crushing (compression) in concrete are represented by increasing values of the hardening (softening) variables. These variables control the evolution of the yield surface and the degradation of the elastic stiffness. The extent of damage can be tracked using the damage variables. Failure of a structure modeled using CDP in finite element model must be defined by the user based on the state of damage determined in the analysis. The following papers provide more information on the use of the CDP for modeling concrete structures:
