Postgraduate Students in their thesis working up phase, must work under the supervision of a professor or a whole active team, whether it is a master thesis or Phd dissertation.
What is exactly the role of this supervisor ? is it guidance and mentoring ? or judging and assessment ?
I am asking this question because I am confused, and I want to know the practices from abroad.

The supervision rules depend on the university and somehow on the country .. in most universities the supervisor just highlights the main idea and final output ..then the student must find his way ..during that the supervisor following up progress of the student .. I think this is more easier for the supervisor specially when he has many students need his supervision.
