These three key concepts seem simple to use, but scholars usually use them differently in research, particularly in evidence-based research. I am asking about their differences, and whether it is appropriate to include them in a single thesis/dissertation proposal or not.
indeed, there is a hierarchical relation between the three concepts. all of them should be used. out of a statement of inquiry, a researcher should focus on one or more objectives. to attain a given objective, one has to ask one or more questions. for each question, one has to concieve one or more hypotheses sucseptible to answer the question which is, in its turn, conducive to attain the objective.
hypotheses formulation is of course a quantitative research strategy, while in qualitative research, we speak rather about propositions.
I do not think that it is necessary to state all three. The main objective is to give the reader a clear understanding of what the research is about, and you should do this in the introduction to your article (or chapter). The clearer your statement is, the better.
More specifically, If you are going to be testing hypotheses in a quantitative study, then you should list your major hypotheses.
